Societies, Events and Campaigns
The Students’ Union (SU) is run by students, for students, and is here to support you during your time at UCEN Manchester. Whether you're struggling to manage your finances, looking to make new friends or keen to get involved in some of the social events happening on campus, our SU has something for everyone. We're also committed to building a strong sense of community across UCEN Manchester and making sure your voice is heard. So, if you ever want a chat, visit the SU space and speak to a member of the team.
Societies
Our student societies are at the heart of campus life, offering students the chance to connect, explore their interests, and be part of a welcoming community. Whether you’re looking to try something new, meet like-minded people, or build confidence outside of the classroom, there’s something for everyone.
We currently offer a growing range of student-led societies, each creating a space for students to come together around shared passions:
Creative Collective Society
A space for all things creative, from art and design to crafts and collaborative projects.
Sports Society
Bringing students together through a variety of sports, activities, and friendly competition.
AniGame Society
Perfect for fans of anime, gaming, and pop culture to connect and share their interests.
Open Mic Society
A supportive environment for performers, whether you enjoy singing, spoken word, comedy, or music.
Tech Society
A hub for students interested in technology, innovation, and digital skills.
Our societies are student-led, giving members the opportunity to shape activities, organise events, and develop valuable leadership and teamwork skills. It’s a great way to build confidence, gain experience, and make lasting friendships.
If you can’t find a society that matches your interests, you can even start your own with support from the Students’ Union. No matter your experience level, our societies are open to everyone and are here to help you make the most of your time at college.
Events
We run a wide range of events throughout the year, including free hot meals, free fruit and veg, craft workshops, full-day themed movie marathons and many more.
All students are welcome to attend and take part in any of the events that we host. Many of the events we host will benefit the students directly through either giveaways or entering free raffles to win larger items such as air fryers, heated blankets etc!

Campaigns
Our campaigns run year-round and target the challenges students are currently facing. For 2025-2026, we focused on mental health and wellbeing alongside Cost-of-Living pressures – all areas raised as concerns by students to support their peers.
Swap Shop
Our year-round Swap Shop, located in the CCM Library, offers students a simple and sustainable way to refresh their wardrobe. This initiative encourages students to donate pre-loved clothing or items they no longer need and browse a selection of items donated by others, all at no cost.
The Swap Shop is designed to promote sustainability, reduce waste, and support students who may not have the budget for new clothing. Whether you’re looking for everyday essentials, something for a special occasion, or simply want to try a new style, the Swap Shop provides an accessible and inclusive space for everyone.
Students are welcome to contribute clean, good-quality items at any time, helping to keep the space stocked and beneficial for the wider student community.
Food Bank
As part of our ongoing Cost of Living campaign, we provide a Student Food Box located in a discreet area of the CCM Library. This service is designed to support students who may be experiencing financial difficulties by offering access to essential items in a safe, respectful, and stigma-free environment.
The Food Box is stocked with a range of tinned and dried goods, as well as sanitary and hygiene products, ensuring students can access basic necessities when they need them most. There is no formal sign-up process, allowing students to use the service quickly and privately.
We are committed to supporting student wellbeing and recognise the challenges that many may face during their studies. The Food Box is just one of the ways we aim to create a supportive and inclusive environment where all students can thrive.
Introducing your SU President, Joshua Lewis
Hey Everyone! I’m Joshua Lewis, and I’m your SU President. I’m excited to welcome all students to UCEN Manchester, both new and returning. In my role, I help ensure there are plenty of engaging activities and opportunities for you throughout the year.
A key part of my job is working closely with both students and staff to make sure the student experience is the best it can be. As a recent graduate of the Arden School of Theatre, my top priority is making sure every student’s voice is heard. I’m committed to creating positive change and improving student life across the institution.
If you have an idea for a society, want to raise a concern, or simply want to talk, feel free to drop by the SU area upstairs. My term runs until the end of the 2027 academic year, so keep an eye out for opportunities to get involved in the future.

Hello all, my name is Alleah Ali and I am delighted to be the Student’s Union Vice President. As a student myself, I understand many of the challenges and experiences you may face, and I’m passionate about making student life here the best it can be. My role is to advocate for your needs, ideas and interests, and to help improve the overall student experience. If you ever have concerns, suggestions or even ideas for new societies, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Togetherness is the best way to approach anything - whether it’s a problem or an idea - and I will always make time to listen. I look forward to working with you and supporting you throughout the year!
