About Us

Keeping You Safe

Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and supported throughout their time at UCEN Manchester. This page brings together the information, advice and support available if you are worried about yourself, another student or something you have experienced.

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility

Every member of staff plays a role in creating a safe, inclusive and respectful community. We work closely with health services, local authorities, emergency services and specialist organisations where additional support is required.

You can view our higher education policies and procedures, including those relating to safeguarding and wellbeing, on our higher education policies page.

What happens when you tell us?

  • We will listen without judgement
  • We will take your concerns seriously
  • We will explain what support is available
  • We will involve you wherever possible
  • We will only share information when necessary to keep you or others safe
  • We will keep you updated about what happens next where appropriate.

If you or somebody else is in immediate danger, call 999. If you are on campus, notify a member of staff as soon as it is safe to do so.

Whether you're struggling with your mental health, experiencing abuse, feeling unsafe, being exploited or facing another personal concern, you don't have to manage it alone. Contact Future U and we'll listen, explain your options and help you access the right support.

If you're concerned about a friend, classmate or someone you've met at UCEN Manchester, tell us. You don't need proof to raise a concern. We'd rather know early so we can check if someone is safe and offer support where needed. You can speak to your Personal Tutor or Future U.

You can report concerns about safeguarding, harassment, sexual misconduct, bullying, discrimination, domestic abuse, online harm, exploitation or any situation where someone's safety or wellbeing may be at risk. Reports are treated sensitively and only shared with those who need to know.

Everyone has the right to study free from harassment, bullying, stalking, sexual harassment and sexual violence. We are committed to creating a safe environment for all our students. Find out how to report concerns, access specialist support and understand what happens after you make a report.

If your concern relates to your emotional wellbeing, anxiety, low mood or another mental health issue, our Mental Health and Wellbeing team can help. Explore self-help resources, wellbeing support, counselling and external specialist services.

If you have a disability, long-term health condition, learning difference or neurodivergent condition, we can help you access reasonable adjustments, Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) and ongoing support

UCEN Manchester has a legal duty to help keep students safe from radicalisation and extremist influences. You will learn more about Prevent, how concerns are managed and where to seek advice in your personal tutorial workshops.
