Overview

If you’ve successfully completed the Foundation Degree in Make-up Artistry, convert that qualification into a BA (Hons) degree, enhance your knowledge and expertise in make-up application and equip yourself with the skills to adapt and respond to the challenging demands of the make-up industry.

Manchester is a hub for innovation and production, with make-up artists much sought after for work at the BBC and ITV at Media City. With this course, you’ll extend the essential key skills and attributes required of a professional make-up artist, develop advanced techniques and technical abilities in the art of make-up transformation and benefit from significant experience and work placements.

The full-time course is delivered over two to three days by specialist staff. Alongside this, you’ll enjoy a range of guest speakers, travel to industry exhibitions and events, and take part in a variety of educational trips if you study with us.

All staff teaching on the BA Hons have a level 6 and level 7 qualification in related subject areas.

Stephen Holt has worked as a professional hairdresser for many years and has been an educator for the last 13 years. He’s heavily contributed to the designing and implementation of hairstyling & Postiche across the make-up artistry courses.

Carl Pinnington has over thirty years’ photography industry experience and is qualified to level 7, Master of Arts in Photography. He has nationally and internationally published work and has won many industry awards.


• Level 5 Qualification in Media Make-up or related subject area.

You’ll need to attend a formal interview and provide a portfolio of work.

You’ll also need to provide a 2000 word example of academic written work including quotes and referencing using APA 6th (this work will be retained by the interviewer).

Availability for Skype interviews – for overseas applicants

Mature applicants (aged 21 or over) who are able to demonstrate relevant skills or knowledge gained in employment or vocational activity will be considered and may be invited to interview.

There are two main costs you will have whilst studying and if you are a home student studying on a full-time course, you can apply for student finance to cover both of these:

 Your tuition fees for each year of your course.
 Help with your living costs e.g. rent, food, clothing, course materials, entertainment.

All of the books required for the course are available from the library. However, many students choose to buy some of the core textbooks for the course and/or a laptop.

Estimated costs are £300 for a laptop.
Approx. £100 each year for books and printing.

You may also need to print your assignments and other documents. Campus printing costs start from 5p per page.

You will need to purchase a secure digital storage device SD Card recommended 32GB estimated cost = Approx. £10

You will also need to a Universal Serial Bus USB recommended 32GB estimated cost = Approx. £10

You will also need to purchase AA batteries - these will be needed to operate the triggers and flashes for studio photography work.

There will be an option to undertake a basic hair cutting and barbering course, this will be outside of the contracted course timetable, It is a mandatory requirement for students to purchase a kit prior to enrolling on this course, this kit will cost approximately £200 per student
