Overview

Designed specifically for professional football players and others working in player-facing or support role, this three-year programme combines learning in key areas of the football industry.
By allowing you to combine academic study and your existing football commitments effectively, this course allows you to develop your love of football into a sustainable and successful future career.
This is a practical course which builds on your experience as a player or in a support role within a football environment. You will develop transferable skills relating to the football industry and facilitate your career progression into a wide range of roles across football and sport more broadly.
Designed to offer a range of experiences that reflect the reality of playing and working within a professional football club, as well as taking advantage of the workplace context in which this programme is delivered, you will be able to take your learning and apply it directly to your work, your club and the wider football environment.
You will have the opportunity to learn more about topics such as the tactical trends of the modern game, the increased physical demands on players, the importance of understanding how to manage individuals and teams, the role of technology and much more as the course content reflects the growth of employment opportunities which now exist in the football industry.
You will learn through a combination of activities, lectures and group discussions which will be delivered online via the UCEN virtual learning environment.
With this degree you can choose to continue in your professional career as a player, or in a player facing role, knowing that you have gained valuable new skills that can set you up for a future career within the football or the wider sporting industry. This course will prepare you for positions across a variety of areas such as Talent ID, Coaching, Analysis, Football Administration, Community Development and more.

This programme is collaborative in design, development and delivery – working with faculty from UCEN Manchester and Ahead in Sport – to provide an outstanding student experience in all modules and skill pathways across the overall programme.
All of the teaching team on this degree are football, and sport industry, relevant professionals with an unrivalled level of knowledge, best practice and experiences to share and exchange with students.
Academic rigour, through research informed teaching, and all underpinning knowledge is complimented by influential guest speakers from the global football industry across all modules.
Notable guest sessions will include organisations such as the Premier League, UEFA, FIFA, the Football Association of Wales and the Association of Sporting Directors as well as organisation and individuals with expertise in topics such as Mental Health, Women’s Football, Football Media, Talent Identification, Technology in Football and Psychology in Football.


• If no level 3 qualification, then applicants would need professional qualifications e.g UEFA B or A or to be considered via APL for prior experience

• 3 year course - have gained a level 3 education e.g. BTEC or A Levels. Ideally MMM minimum profile for BTEC or CCC for A levels (96 points)

• Must have access to a Football environment

Applicants who do not meet the standard entry criteria but have previous learning towards a degree-level qualification or relevant industry or life experience will be considered on an individual basis and will be invited to interview.
Mature applicants (aged 21 or over) who are able to demonstrate relevant skills or knowledge gained in employment or vocational activity will be considered and will be invited to interview.

The assessments on this degree are designed to enable you to engage with the world, collaborate with others, challenge you to think in new ways and provide you with a supportive environment in which you can learn and thrive.
You will learn through a combination of activities, lectures and seminars which will be delivered online via the UCEN virtual learning environment. The course will focus on developing your knowledge of the field (content) whilst giving you the opportunities to apply your learning in practical contexts (experience). In addition, you will undertake independent study in your own time.
The module assessments are varied and include a range of different approaches to allow you to experience different ways of learning. These include digital presentations, creative pitches, blogs, infographics, case study reports, portfolios and project work which can be conducted in the football (workplace) environment.
