Overview

Designed specifically for professional and aspiring football players and those in player-facing roles, BSc (Hons) Football Industry degree combines learning in key areas of the football industry with practical leadership skills. Using a unique and innovative online delivery model, this is a practical course which has been informed by research and professional practice and builds on learners’ football industry experience to develop strong skills relating to the business of football and facilitate their career progression into the wide range of roles that now exist across the football industry. Utilising the range of experiences that reflect the reality of playing and working within the football industry the programme is designed to work alongside learners’ existing football commitments and allows learners to take advantage of the workplace context in which this programme is delivered.

The programme will enable a cohort of learners from within high performance football environments to access an academic qualification to support their future career options.

Students are expected to study 16 hours per week which is made up of the following:-
You will study 3 modules per semester and 6 modules in total for level 4 and 5 and 5 modules for level 6.
Weekly for one module the expectation is for a student to take part in :-
4 hours directed study via an online interactive workbook which includes resources and formative assessment.
1 hour webinar per module facilitated by the module tutor.
1 hour personal tutorial per week.
In addition, we would expect students to do at least 11 hours of independent study per week.

This programme will be collaborative in design, development and delivery – working with faculty from UCEN Manchester and Ahead in Sport – to increase the capacity and expertise in all modules and skill pathways across the overall programme.
The strength and depth of experience and expertise in FE and HE programme leadership and management is extensive within UCEN Manchester and Ahead in Sport with members of the team having worked in HE for a number of years. To compliment the Ahead in Sport academic team, all Associates that deliver on the programme are football industry relevant professionals with an unrivalled level of knowledge, best practice and experience to share and exchange on the programme. All Associates have been integral to the development of the degree with colleagues at UCEN.
Academic rigour through research informed teaching and all underpinning knowledge is complimented by influential guest speakers from the global football industry across all modules. Notable sessions will include organisations such as the Premier League, UEFA, FIFA, the Football Association of Wales and the Association of Sporting Directors as well as individuals with expertise in topics such as Mental Health, Women’s Football, Talent Identification, Technology in Football and Coaching. The course content is also developed and supported by several industry partners who are internationally renowned experts in their specialism in the football industry.


• If no level 3 qualification, then applicants would need professional qualifications e.g UEFA B or A or to be considered via APL for prior experience

• 3 year course - have gained a level 3 education e.g. BTEC or A Levels. Ideally MMM minimum profile for BTEC or CCC for A levels (96 points)

• Must have access to a Football environment

All candidates will be invited for a 1-1 discussion, to review the candidate’s suitability for the programme.
