Open Eye Gallery curator joins photography degree at UCEN Manchester
A warm welcome has been given to Mariama Attah, the newest tutor to join the FdA Contemporary Photographic Practices course.
Mariama is the newly appointed curator at the world renowned Open Eye Gallery which has partnered with UCEN Manchester to deliver the innovative foundation degree.
Mariama is a photography curator, editor and writer with a particular interest in the power of photography to represent visual culture. As well as teaching at UCEN Manchester, she will be co-writing the new three year Open Eye Photography BA (Hons), which launches in September 2021, while leading the Liverpool gallery’s programme as it moves more towards embracing co-authorship and socially engaged practice.
Mariama joins fellow industry professionals on the UCEN Manchester course including Seba Kurtis, the course’s Artist in Residence with a passion for contemporary art photography, and Manchester-based tutor AJ Wilkinson, who specialises in photographic practice and book production.
Andrew Moseley, Course Leader, said: “The appointment of Mariama Attah as curator will allow us to refine our new cross industry/education partnership to reimagine what a BA programme can offer.
“Young people from a wider demographic are interacting with photography in new exciting ways, shifting from text to images to discover the world.
Mariama is perfectly placed in this appointment to encourage and guide our students to become the next generation of photographers.
