Khea-Mai feels her time at UCEN Manchester has allowed her to grow in confidence. 

Khea-Mai Phoenix applied to study at UCEN Manchester after being impressed by the level of work showcased at our UCEN Manchester open day events. 

She was instantly attracted to the welcoming environment, and particularly enjoyed seeing existing students work, as well as being able to speak to tutors and students at the Open Day. 

What UCEN students say about the special effects makeup artist courses

Khea-Mai studied Theatre Production, Hair, Costume and Make-up with our expert Make-up Artistry and Special Effects department and has learned a range of skills, including industry standard techniques, how to network with industry contacts, and where to find work when she graduates.

She said:

My tutors have always been on hand to speak me, whether in person or through email. They’ve given me sound advice which I can take into the industry, and I feel so prepared.

Khae-mai always wanted to become Head Make-up Artist for an internationally renowned beauty brand and has ambitions to own her own company in the future.

She feels her time studing make-up artistry at UCEN Manchester has allowed her to grow in confidence. She said: “I am most proud of how far I have come over the last three years of study. I believe my confidence has grown massively as well as my skills as an artist. I have most enjoyed getting to discover myself as an artist through experimenting with the different challenges each module sets.”

The next steps after completing the makeup artist course

The next steps for students such as Khea-Mai to progress their makeup artistry careers include continuing to build  portfolios and expand their industry contacts. Khea-Mai is now eager to gain more real-world experience by working on professional projects, which will help her achieve her goal of becoming a Head Make-up Artist for an internationally renowned beauty brand.
