How to make the most of student life
Going on to Higher Education is a unique experience and you’ll want to soak up everything you possibly can during your time here. While your studies are most important, student life is about so much more.
Whether you’re joining straight from college or returning to education as a mature student, here are a few ways to make the most of student life.
Join the Students’ Union
Joining the Students’ Union (SU) is the perfect way to meet new people, find out about events and take part in student campaigns.
Whether it’s volunteering, writing for the SU Bee blog or joining the SU leadership team, there are lots of different ways to get involved.
Run by students, for students, the SU is here to support you. You can even support the SU back and represent UCEN Manchester by visiting the brand new online shop.
Take part in events and extra-curriculars
The student calendar is packed with extra-curricular events and activities, thanks to the wide range of clubs and societies at UCEN Manchester.
From football to photography, we want everyone to feel like there is a group for them and our SU is always open to ideas and suggestions if you fancy getting involved with something new.
This year, all SU clubs and societies will be following best practice in keeping with COVID-19 guidelines, so you’ll be able to meet new people while staying safe and following the latest advice.
Buy a student card
One of the biggest perks of being a student is the range of offers and discounts available to you.
TOTUM is our official student discount and ID card, providing students with discounts on over 200 of their favourite brands, such as ASOS, Domino’s and Odeon.
Buying a TOTUM card also contributes towards the running of our SU, so visit their website or download the app to find out more.
Manage your time
Immersing yourself into everything university has to offer can distract you from the reason you’re here in the first place.
Your course will be demanding but ultimately rewarding and you’ll want to give yourself the best chance of getting the final grade you deserve.
Creating a timetable or diary is the easiest way to keep track of everything you’ve got going on and will ensure you’re leaving time to study.
