Why Start in January?

January Calendar

The clocks have gone back and Christmas adverts are here, you may now be thinking about the New Year

With the clocks having gone back and Christmas adverts starting to appear, many of us are thinking ahead to what the New Year will bring.

The start of a new year is a great time to set goals and for many, January will mean enrolling on a higher education qualification. Reasons can include wanting to change your career, fill a gap in your studies, or simply being ready to return to education after leaving school at 16.

Making such a big decision isn’t easy so we’ve pulled together some of the benefits that come with a January start to reassure you that when it comes to education, there really is no time like the present!

Start in your own time

Whether you missed a September start, want to start now or are transferring from another university, enrolling for January is an opportunity to throw yourself into a new course at a time that is right for you.

There could be a host of reasons why you didn’t enrol in September, from wanting to take a break from education to go travelling to avoiding the traditional ‘freshers’ period at the start of the academic year.

Whatever the reason, you’ve had time to take stock and really reflect on not only why you want to enrol but also which qualification you want to study. And having reached that decision, you can jump straight in at UCEN Manchester rather than stalling for September. In short, why would you wait?

Flexibility

A January start typically offers greater flexibility so that you can tailor the course to suit you. At UCEN Manchester, we make every effort to offer flexible, condensed timetabling so that it fits around your other commitments. What’s more, the courses tend to have a lighter introduction, giving you time to adapt to studying alongside working and maintaining downtime.

A defined path to employment

Our courses typically have a heavy focus on practical, vocational training, and provide a clearly defined career path. This often ensures that you maintain an ‘end goal’ and stay focused throughout your course. Our award winning student support team Future U is also on hand throughout your studies to support you with careers advice.

At UCEN Manchester all our courses offer clear paths to future employment and many have direct links to industry where you gain work experience and develop connections for when you are applying for roles once you have your qualifications.

Graduate in two years

At UCEN Manchester, our offer of HNC’s, HND’s and foundation degrees mean you can choose a one to two year degree level course that will give you the foundation skills for a career and help you access higher level jobs or qualifications, including our range of BA/BSc (Hons) Top up degrees. This quick course progression means that you can reach your goals quickly without compromising on quality.

Grow your earning potential

The chances are that, as you consider a January start, one concern is that you may not see a return on your investment.

However, as well as our courses being typically cheaper than those offered at a larger universities, the average income difference between someone with a Level 3 qualification vs a Level 4 or above is roughly 35 per cent*. Our courses will give you the skills to access higher paying roles, progress in your career or make an immediate impact within your workplace.
