Students celebrated at annual awards ceremony

Student Awards winner

Staff and students from UCEN Manchester recently got together at the National Football Museum in Manchester city centre for the annual Student Awards, an event to showcase the incredible achievements of students over the last 12 months.

All student finalists were nominated by either a member of staff or a fellow student before a panel of judges shortlisted the best nominations in each category. Finalists were given the chance to take two guests with them to the event.

Throughout the night, they were treated to delicious food and incredible student performances from the winners and the runner-up in a talent show organised by our further education partner at The Manchester College. During the ceremony, attendees heard about the finalists’ amazing achievements and found out why their nominators were inspired to recognise them.

Everything was expertly hosted by JJ Lewis, a third-year Acting student, part of UCEN Manchester alongside Katrina Ahuja, a Level 1 Business student at The Manchester College. The event concluded with the prestigious Student of the Year Award being presented to Triston Palma.

After receiving the award, the HNC Construction Management student said: “It’s an unbelievable feeling to win this award. I always tell my son that hard work yields results, and this award is proof of that.”

Speaking after the awards, Michael Walsh, Dean of UCEN Manchester said: "The Student Awards ceremony is always a fantastic event. The standard of nominations seems to get better each year and every student did brilliantly to be shortlisted in their category."

"A massive congratulations to Triston Palma for winning Student of the Year. The applause when he was announced as the winner speaks volumes for what he has contributed to the UCEN Manchester student community."
