Student photographers explore social themes in Liverpool showcase

Staff presenting at exhibition

Photography students from UCEN Manchester recently exhibited their work at Liverpool’s renowned Open Eye Gallery as part of Unfolding - a public showcase exploring place, identity, and lived experience through photography.

The exhibition featured powerful and original work from students on the higher education provider’s BA (Hons) Photography and Social Practice course, attracting visitors from across the North West and beyond.

Delivered in one of the UK’s most respected photography spaces, the event offered students the opportunity to exhibit in a professional context, connecting with audiences, practitioners, and industry peers. Unfolding was a proud moment for both the staff and students at the School of Art, Media & Make-Up, and a testament to the exceptional talent currently being nurtured at the higher education provider.

Rob Owen, Director of Curriculum for the Creative Arts at UCEN Manchester, reflected on the exhibition: "Unfolding was more than just an exhibition, it offered a powerful insight into our students’ passions and the subjects that matter to them. It was especially rewarding to see they had engaged meaningfully with different communities as part of their creative process.

“Having the opportunity to present this work at Open Eye Gallery was a proud moment, and it’s fantastic to have such a valuable partnership with one of the UK’s leading photography organisations. The exhibition marked an important step in the students’ professional development and highlighted UCEN Manchester’s commitment to real-world, socially engaged learning."

All the work has now been transferred and is on display in The Hive at City Campus Manchester, if you're a student, go and have a look!
