More than just a Makeup Course

Student finds her future career path through FDA Special Effects Makeup Artistry.

Angela Ward started out as a Media Makeup student at The Manchester College. After completing both her Level 2 and 3 Angela chose to progress directly onto UCEN Manchester, where we helped her find her future career path.

Angie enrolled on the FDA Special Effects Makeup Artistry course with dreams to work in the TV and Film industry as a professional Makeup Artist and then eventually open and run her own Makeup academy.

With Angie’s goals in mind, her tutors at UCEN Manchester worked closely with her to ensure she was equipped with the right knowledge and skills to go into the industry.

Tutors organised workshops and visits with industry professionals, shared their own wealth of experiences and provided invaluable opportunities. These covered everything from working alongside them on short films, to assisting Photographers working with models and Actors.

Angie commented, “For people that struggle academically like me, there is a lot more support here than you would get at other provisions. I honestly can't thank my tutors enough for the help and support they have given me especially when I fell behind due to being in hospital.

They kept me updated via email and continuously went over things until I understood them. Without that support, I don't think I would be doing as well as I am.

Angie’s favourite part of the course has been working charitable events such as, ‘Stars in their eyes’ and ‘Maggie’s on the Runway’, projects that provide emotional, practical and social support to those living with cancer and their loved ones. 

Angie continued, “I loved seeing a smile on the face of someone fighting so hard with cancer after doing their hair and knowing I have helped them feel that little bit more confident to walk down the runway. Nothing can be more rewarding than that. If I can make a difference in somebody’s day it drives me to do well and keep progressing.”
