BA Make-up Artistry and Special Effects students visit the International Make-up Artists trade show

Students from UCEN Manchester’s BA Make-up Artistry and Special Effects course took to ‘the city that never sleeps’ to visit the world renowned International Make-up Artists trade show (IMATS) situated on Pier 94, New York.

The group spent six days networking with international make-up artists, actively working in the theatre, fashion, editorial, TV and film industries. Tutor Carl Pinnington, described the show as a “melting pot of creative and technical excellence, supported with a series of specialised seminars”.

Staying in Midtown Manhattan, within walking distance of Time Square, the make-up students enjoyed a bus tour of the entire city taking in Brooklyn, Downtown Manhattan and Uptown Harlem. They also took the opportunity to visit the infamous American Museum of Natural History, Central Park, Tiffany’s &Co, Battery Park and the emotional 9/11 Memorial and Museum.

“I can't describe how much I loved the New York trip” said BA SFX Make up Artistry student, Jessica Barker. “I didn't think it would be an opportunity I would get to do anytime soon, especially whilst studying my BA. IMATS was really cool and to say I've been to the New York IMATS is an awesome experience!”

Nadia Pulfrey on the BA Make up Artistry course added, “IMATS taught me a lot about different makeup techniques and how to be more confident. Plus, being able to see views I’ve only seen on postcards and TV was insane! I’m so happy that I got to experience it.”
