Tutor Case study
Hannah Stansfield is UCEN Manchester’s Departmental Team Leader for Construction and one of many in a specialist team of experts teaching on the programme.
All of the tutors within the Construction and the Built Environment department have been adult learners, completing their degrees or HNC’s later in life. This ensures that the level of teaching involves an understanding for the effect studying has on personal lives and prior commitments.
Hannah said: “Our students come to join us from many different routes. Lots of them have already been working in the industry and have learnt a trade but won’t have the qualifications they need to back up their skills. Or we often find that companies approach us to ensure their employees have the right skills, which means they may be balancing a career and their studies at the same time!”
When asked what students can expect from their course, Hannah continued: “Construction at UCEN Manchester is broad and covers a lot of subjects including project management, site management, and quantity surveying.
It gives a real overview of the industry. Whether students decided to stop at HNC Level or continue to progress, we are there to help.
At UCEN Manchester we know our students on a one-to-one basis and our degree programmes are validated by one of three top universities; Manchester Metropolitan University, Sheffield Hallam University or University of Huddersfield, or a major examining board. Our well-established Higher Education provision is constantly reviewed and shaped by academics and industry experts, providing the best career opportunities possible.
Whether you have ambitions to become a quantity surveyor or CAD technician, let us be a part of your journey to help you to build a career in the industry.
