Manchester Film School alumni achieves industry recognition with RTS award

Manchester Film School alumni Katie Brown has won a prestigious Craft Writing Royal Television Society (RTS) Award for her production titled ‘Are You Home For Christmas?’ after graduating from UCEN Manchester.

The production, which was inspired by her time living with flatmates as a student, was also nominated for Best Comedy and Drama at the awards.

Katie was delighted with the award, saying: “I was so happy that I won, but it did come as a massive shock. There were so many talented writers and filmmakers there, so I’m delighted to have finished first.”

Speaking about the help and guidance she received throughout her time at the Manchester Film School, part of UCEN Manchester, she added: “Throughout my time on the course, the tutors guided me through every step of writing and directing my first film.

“There were weekly sessions with a writing tutor that made a huge difference, and I always felt supported. Whether it was understanding the next step, refining ideas, or collaborating with others, the help was always there. Working closely with tutors and other students really showed me how much of film and TV production is about collaboration and creative teamwork.”
