Can virtual courses achieve the same results as in person degree courses

A qualification with a percentage of online learning can help you achieve the qualification you need

Online learning is proving the only way for thousands of students across the country who are swapping classrooms on campus for digital spaces due to COVID-19. If you’ve ever wondered whether virtual courses give you the same results as classroom based degree courses, the good news is at UCEN Manchester they do!

At UCEN Manchester we’re currently offering a blended learning model where some lessons take place online while others are taking place in the classroom. This means we can keep face to face delivery for practical sessions while ensuring that we have two metre social distancing measures in place to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission on our campuses. The result is a safe, secure, welcoming learning environment on campus, supplemented by an excellent online learning experience.

Way back before we were so familiar with lockdowns and hand sanitiser, we were already offering our students a wide range of flexible learning options, so it’s no surprise that we've adapted quickly to delivering a high quality education during the ongoing pandemic.

So what are the benefits of flexible and online learning? Here’s just some of the benefits that blended and online learning has to offer.

Study anywhere, anytime

With decent wifi and a laptop, you can fit your learning around your own personal schedule. You might need to attend classes and tutorials at specific times but the joy of digital means quite often the classes are recorded and can be shared at a later date….so if you need to check your notes you can do so easily.

I've enjoyed the flexibility to learning. I also am really pleased with the support I have received from my lecturers in these ever-changing times we are in. - Modupe Dosumu, FdA Criminology and Criminal Justice

Recognised qualifications

All of our degree programmes are validated by one of three top universities or a major examining board, so choosing a course with some online learning means you’ll STILL be leaving with a widely recognised and industry standard qualification. Our well-established Higher Education provision is continually shaped by industry experts and academics, giving you the best career opportunities possible.

Smaller class sizes

With over 20 years experience, we specialise in helping people from all backgrounds study towards degrees in a personal and practical way. We keep our class sizes small to ensure you benefit from one to one support from your tutor and also to ensure your voice is heard, whether that’s face to face or via Microsoft Teams (as long as you unmute your microphone!).

I've really enjoyed the smaller classes and more personal tuition it brings both face to face and online. – Lisa Jane Walker, FdSc Sport Science and Human Performance

Online resources

At UCEN Manchester, we have a wide range of resources online. Our skills4studycampus, an interactive e-learning package, offers lots of Study Skills videos to give you handy hints on how to get the best out of your learning and technology to help you work through modules such as reading and note making, writing skills or exam skills.

What I’ve really enjoyed this year is the support from the teachers and SU that I have been received throughout the year and the ability to join classes and attend meeting remotely. - Shaikh Waqas, FdSc Computer Network Engineering
