Study Skills Workshops (for current UCEN Manchester students)

Join our Student Union as they walk through an introduction to life at UCEN Manchester as well as a look at all things higher education. Learn what to expect starting out, including submitting assignments, accessing resources, living independently and meeting new people.

By the end of this session, you will:

• Meet the Student Union team and learn about their experiences as current and past students.
• Understand more about the culture we foster at UCEN Manchester
• Know how to navigate UCEN Manchester’s online spaces
• Learn about opportunities to meet new people, including through SU societies

You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about starting out and discuss what resources would benefit you throughout your first year at UCEN Manchester.

Join us in a discussion about returning to study following a break, the support available to you and tips and tricks for balancing life and study. Through this workshop, you will: • Gain an understanding of study skills and begin building healthy study habits • Learn tips for balancing responsibilities in and out of higher education • Discuss building and creating new relationships • Learn about the available supports at UCEN Manchester and how we can directly help you. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and provide feedback in regard to what resources you would like in your transition back to studying at a higher education level.

In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, developing strong digital skills are key to helping you succeed both academically and professionally. This workshop will explore the key tools and strategies for fostering success in the digital age. Through this presentation, you will: • Understand the core digital skills necessary for study • Learn about the key platforms, software, and digital tools used at UCEN Manchester • Develop strategies to improve critical thinking and digital communication. Whether you’re new to digital tools or looking to enhance your existing knowledge, this session will provide you with the insights and resources to thrive in higher education and everyday life.

Through this presentation, you will: • Understand the fundamentals of academic writing, including structure, argumentation, and clarity • Learn effective techniques for reading scholarly texts and extracting key information • Gain practical tips for studying efficiently while maintaining a healthy balance Whether you’re new to academic writing and reading or looking to refine your skills, this session will provide you with the tools and strategies to succeed in higher education and beyond.
