The BA (Hons) Theatre and Creative Performance programme combines rigorous practical and theoretical training to develop versatile, innovative performers and creators. Students acquire skills in devising, producing, and facilitating creative work across diverse contexts, blending artistic, technical, inclusive, and entrepreneurial practices for the creative industries.
The curriculum fosters artistic innovation, interdisciplinarity, and social engagement. Students develop independent artistic identities through research, critical reflection, and comprehensive portfolio building. With extensive industry links, the programme offers authentic opportunities including performing, making theatre, touring theatre, festival production, international exchanges, and applied community projects.
Throughout their studies, students build resilience and adaptability, preparing for diverse professional careers with real-world projects and mentorship from experienced practitioners. The programme's inclusive ethos ensures equitable participation and supports personal and academic development, empowering graduates as socially conscious and entrepreneurial artists ready to navigate the evolving artistic landscape.

• We strongly recommend that all applicants have GCSE English Language and Mathematics grades A*-C or level 9-4.
• Full level 3 qualification in a relevant subject
• If English is not your first language, you will need an IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills, or equivalent.
• 96 UCAS tariff points
• Applicants will need to attend an audition which will consist of a group workshop, presentation of a prepared speech, and an interview.
• Successful audition including group workshop, prepared speech, and interview.

Year 1: Acting Methods (20 credits)
Enhance your understanding of classical and contemporary acting by exploring Stanislavski's methodology alongside other key approaches. Analyse scripts, build believable characters, and apply different tools.
Year 1: Clowning and Playing (20 credits)
Discover core principles of clowning, playfulness, and comedic timing through the experimentation of vulnerability, presence, and connection.
Year 1: Performance Making (20 credits)
Collaborate as an ensemble to explore contemporary devising processes. You'll create original work through experimentation, improvisation, and practical research, leading to a devised performance that synthesises interdisciplinary skills and creative ideas.
Year 1: Performance Skills (40 credits)
Develop a strong technical foundation in creative performance through intensive training in voice, movement, singing, and ensemble creation.
Year 1: Performing the Self (20 credits)
Investigate autobiographical performance through creative exploration of narrative, memory, and identity. Draw upon your own lived experiences to develop original material and dramaturgical strategies.
Year 2: Applied Performance (20 credits)
Design, plan, and facilitate creative workshops in community settings, such as age concerns, youth centres, or prisons. Understand the ethical, social, and organisational responsibilities of the facilitator.
Year 2: Comedy Practice and Stand-Up (20 credits)
Develop a distinctive comedic voice through building original material. Refine your presence and audience engagement skills, and complete the module be performing a stand-up set in front of a live audience.
Year 2: Performance for Young Audience (20 credits)
Design and perform original work for young audiences, with emphasis on story, playfulness, and interaction. Understand age-appropriate content and the dynamics of performing for young audiences.
Year 2: Performance Lab (40 credits)
Engage in solo performance development that interrogates multiple interdisciplinary practices. Experience focused studio sessions and an immersive retreat, promoting deep personal artistic exploration.
Year 2: Touring Theatre (20 credits)
Create an ensemble performance from a list of ten stimuli, whilst gaining the skills of taking your show on tour across the North of England.
Year 3: Creative Freelance Toolkit (20 credits)
Develop a professional portfolio including a performance video, funding applications, budgeting, branding, and career pathways preparation.
Year 3: Festival Producing (20 credits)
Your degree culminates in the management, production, marketing, and presentation of a public-facing festival, providing a vital platform for showcasing your work to industry professionals.
Year 3: Final performance Project (20 credits)
Create a solo or ensemble performance which may be a live performance, workshop, installation, or interdisciplinary presentation. Select a format that represents your artistic identity and present it at the Festival.
Year 3: International Performance (20 credits)
Create work for a non-British audience with the opportunity of travelling abroad to perform and engage in a cultural exchange project.
Year 3: Professional Collaboration (20 credits)
Create an ensemble performance under the direction and facilitation of a visiting professional theatre company or solo artist.
The majority of your work will be assessed via practical means through live public performances, workshops and creative projects.
Other assessment formats include collaborative devising projects, reflective portfolios, presentations, written reports, workshops facilitation, and digital content creation.
£100 for retreat as part of the Performance Lab module in 2nd year
£200 for International Performance trip in 3rd year
