Overview

This Access to Higher Education diploma is designed to prepare mature learners for higher education.

Due to the nature of the degrees and professions students’ progress onto, this diploma fosters skills of reflection, critical analysis and debate.

The course covers academic units from the following modules:
• Psychology
• Social Policy
• Sociology

You’ll study a range of topics including Safeguarding Children and Social Work, Personality Theory, Race in British Society, and Perspectives on Policing.

You’ll also be encouraged to view social and personal issues from different perspectives and to broaden your outlook.

Applicants for this course will preferably possess both GCSE English and maths at grade C or above or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths.
You may be able to study one GCSE alongside this Access to Higher Education diploma.
If you have Functional Skills Level 2 in English and maths please check to confirm the entry requirements for degrees you may wish to progress onto.

This Access Diploma is assessed through ‘continual assessment’ meaning assignments are completed on topics throughout the academic year. Types of assignments include essays, reports, academic posters and leaflets, exams and presentations.
A supportive and interactive learning environment is provided using a variety of methods including classroom-based teaching, group work, individual tutorials, videos, outside visits and guest speakers.
Learners are supported with acquiring and improving their study skills through a weekly tutorial which also includes one-to-one support with your personal tutor.
