Counselling

You will be taught by a team of experienced educators with a wealth of knowledge and experience from the counselling profession.

All staff have or are working towards higher level Master’s and/or professional industry-based qualifications. Our staff maintain strong links with Sheffield Hallam University and regularly update their knowledge and skills with the university and through sector links and professional communities of practice.

• Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling or equivalent

• Good level of spoken or written English

• Successful applicants will need a satisfactory current enhanced DBS

All applicants will be required to attend a professional discussion with one of the programme team to assess their suitability and readiness for the programme.

Mature applicants (aged 21 or over) who are able to demonstrate relevant skills or knowledge gained in employment or vocational activity will be considered and may be invited to interview.

All of the books required for the course are available either from the library or as e-books. However, many students choose to buy some of the core textbooks for the course and/or a laptop. You may also need to print assignments and other documents. Campus printing costs start from 5p per page. Estimated costs are £300 for a laptop and up to £60 each year for books and printing If undertaking work experience (which may be paid or unpaid) you may also need to factor in travel costs to your place of work.

BACP student membership £86 per year, professional indemnity insurance £50-£100 per year.
Placements charge nominal fee up to £60 per month.
Digital recording device £50 (phones are not allowed).

Student rates for supervisor costs start around £40.00 per hour, you will need 2 hours per month and be required for a minimum of 10 months.

UCEN Manchester does not provide supervisors directly. However, we do have affiliate supervisors that we would recommend, subject to availability.

You will have to cover the travel costs from and to the placement and supervision sessions.

You may be required to have an enhanced DBS check for this course to ensure you meet both our and industry safeguarding requirements. Please note there will be an additional cost to your course fees to cover Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks. Please see the GOV.UK website for DBS costs.

In this year you will need to complete 100 hours supervised work placement which will be supported with a clinical supervisor. The work placement and a supervisor must be sourced by yourselves and the cost of the supervision will be paid by yourself.
