Overview

The Pearson BTEC Level 4 HNC in Healthcare Practice (Integrated Health and Social Care Pathway) provides a generalist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in the health and social care sector and also offers particular specialist emphasis through the choice of optional units.

BTEC Level 4 HNCs provide a nationally recognised qualification offering career progression and professional development for those already in employment and opportunities to progress into higher education.

The qualification comprises of 120 credits made up from 7 different units, and completion/submission of a Practical Learning and Assessment Development Portfolio is a core requirement of this programme.

This course is supported by focused study in areas of health and social care including specially designed units. You will be given the opportunity to develop and contribute to the health and social care environment through the combination of the knowledge and skills gained in different parts of the programme. The course includes 225 hours mandatory work experience in an occupationally relevant setting, and you will be supported in developing practice-based competencies by Tutors/Assessors and designated Workplace Mentors.

There are two main costs you will have whilst studying and if you are a home student studying on a full-time course, you can apply for student finance to cover both of these:

All of the books required for the course are available either from the library or as e-books. However, many students choose to buy some of the core textbooks for the course and/or a laptop. You may also need to print assignments and other documents. Campus printing costs start from 5p per page. Estimated costs are £300 for a laptop and up to £50 each year for books and printing.

If undertaking work experience (which may be paid or unpaid) you may also need to factor in travel costs to your place of work.
